What's on and
where to go in West Dorset
Most
of West Dorset is designated an area of outstanding natural
beauty; (Click for maps) There is the World Heritage site "Jurassic coast"
famous for its fossils and footpaths and the rolling hills
- home of the Cerne Giant and the spectacular hill forts of Maiden Castle
and Eggardon.
Beautiful Coast
We have a large private car park, so why not forget about the
car and stroll to the numerous pubs and restaurants around
West Bay harbour and the surrounding countryside.
You can take the Jurassic Coast bus, which stops a few hundred
meters from our door, and enjoy the beautiful scenery along
the coast from Poole to Exmouth. It runs every 2 hours and
you can purchase a daily hop on and hop off ticket.
West Bay Beach
We
are just 10 minutes walk from West Bay, location for the BBC
series "Harbour Lights", with its picturesque harbour, beaches,
and the Dorset coastal path. There is also the spectacular
cliff top Bridport and West Dorset golf course, Chesil Beach
and Golden Cap. (The highest point on the south coast): all
now part of Dorset's World Heritage coast site.
Bridport - Historic Market Town
Bridport is renowned for
its thriving street markets and monthly Farmers' market. On
Saturdays, the streets are lined with dozens of stalls selling
bric-a- brac and antiques, alongside local produce stalls.
It's a bargain hunters paradise!
The
historic town of Dorchester, famous for its Roman Heritage
and its links to Thomas Hardy is a short drive away. So too
is Lyme Regis and the counties of Devon and Somerset. Britmead
is the ideal base for exploring all this and much more. We
